Slapstick: Or Lonesome No More is often cited as being one of the finest novels of the twentieth century. Vonnegut's incredible gift for finding the farcical in even the most horrific situation is on full display here. This is the true First Edition and First Printing of this classic. The novel irreverently tackles the pain of human loneliness, mocks organized religion, and boldly criticizes marriage, love, patriotism, and the ruling class system. Truly, Vonnegut is the master of dark comedy! This volume is in Fine condition and very collectible as a Kurt Vonnegut True First. The book is bound in full leather with ornate gilt ornamentation to both boards as well as the spine. The spine has raised hubs in the tradition of classic bookbinding and there is a fine satin bookmark sewn-in to the book. This edition, published in 1976 by the Franklin Library, has gilt on all edges and it is just beautiful. All corners are square and the endpapers are of fine satin moire in a color that complements the color of the binding. The book is almost square in that it is wider than the average Franklin Library publication. It is in Fine condition. It contains a special introduction from Mr. Vonnegut that appears in no other edition of this title. This offering also includes the 'Notes From the Editors' booklet that accompanied the book on publication. It includes a very nice portrait of Vonnegut by Steve Karchin that was expressly created for this First edition. We are pleased to send pictures on request.
